Help Us Keep Harbor Springs Informed, Connected, and Protected
We Love Harbor Springs (WLHS) is here for the long haul—and we’d love to work with you in real time.
Thanks to your past generosity, we’ve come this far. Our deep research, clear communication, and public engagement are all powered by your support. Every newsletter, public comment, and community win has been possible because you showed up.
Looking ahead, our financial needs are changing. The major legal and strategy expenses are behind us. Now, it’s about supporting smarter tools—like better Zoom tech for City Hall—and continuing our work to preserve and protect what makes Harbor Springs special.
What matters most now is early collaboration. By organizing at the district level—before drafts are finalized—you help shape better, more balanced outcomes. Property owners know their neighborhoods. Your insight is essential to writing fair, functional zoning rules.
At the July 17, 2025 Planning Commission meeting, former Council member Nancy Rondel said:
“I’m hearing a lot about what the current people want… But the job of the Planning Commission is to plan what’s best for the city as a whole and to look to the future… not what a few residents are happy or not happy with.”
This is exactly the old mindset that frustrates so many. Yes, we must plan for the future—but ignoring the people who live here now is not responsible government. It’s top-down decision-making.
Real planning means listening. Diverse input builds stronger policy. The real threat isn’t too much public engagement—it’s too little. And when the City doesn’t notify residents that zoning changes are coming to their neighborhoods, that’s not just a misstep—it’s a missed chance to serve the very people we’re planning for.
If transparency is the goal, let’s use the tools we already have—together.
